Introducing Michael Ryan, the new Pastor at Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church

"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Michael Ryan, and I have the privilege of serving as Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church's new pastor. I enjoy reading, camping, and working in my yard when I am not involved in ministry. I love almighty God's Bride, "the Church"; however, the greatest blessing God has given me is my family.

In 1984, I married my sweetheart, Karen Jo Coffer, of O'Fallon, Missouri. Karen has been a wonderful partner with me in ministry as well as serving the Lord through her ministry of teaching (first in the public school system and now as the administrator of a private, Christian school in Troy).

Karen and I have three children. Jonathan Ryan is married to Kimberley with a son and daughter (Hudson and Onessa). His family resides in Ferguson, Missouri. Kaylah Jo Martin has two children (Elias and Jubilee) and resides in Hannibal, Missouri. Our youngest daughter, KayCee, attended college at Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, Missouri. She is currently working in a Christian school. Our children love the Lord and faithfully serve Him. They are very supportive of us in our ministry here in Winfield.

If there is one passage of scripture that would summarize my attitude toward ministry, it is found in Mark 10:44-45. Jesus speaking to His disciples said:

"And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant for all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."

I believe that Christians in general and ministers specifically should be people-centered and not self-centered; Christ-centered and not world-centered. Christ's life was one of self-sacrifice and meeting the needs of others in all realms of life. Jesus brought people to repentance (a recognition of one's sin which separates man from God) and to salvation (accepting by faith Christ's atonement through the cross reuniting man in relationship with God) primarily through His unconditional love and kindness. It is my desire and life goal to model this kind of life and lead the people I serve to do the same.

Our first Sunday at Horseshoe Bend will be Sunday, February 10th.  Karen & I are looking forward to this new ministry calling and getting to know new brothers and sisters in Christ at HBBC and within the Lake of the Ozarks Baptist Assiciation."
